Hermann Schmitzbonn
The painter Hermann Schmitzbonn (* 1903 in Duisburg, † 1960 in a sanatorium in Agra, Switzerland) stayed in Adenau between 1944 and 1957. He fled from the bombs in the Eifel during the Second World War. In 1944 he came to Adenau and found accommodation with the sawmill owner and stave manufacturer Anton Klaes in the upper Gartenstrasse. He befriended his daughter Marianne, so that Klaes even built him a studio in 1953. However, there was no marriage to Marianne Klaes. The age difference of 26 years, but also an impending illness of Hermann Schmitzbonn could have been obstacles. Marianne Klaes married an American with whom she emigrated to the USA.
Vita
Schmitzbonn attended the art academy in Düsseldorf and was a master student of Max Clarenbach.
