 Waldemar Schlichting was the son of the painter Max Schlichting [1] and student of Blank, Krause and Kahle [2] at the Art Academy in Berlin and a student at the Art Academy in Königsberg and was a member of the Professional Association of Visual Artists Berlin since 1946. His works are among others in exhibited in the museums of Cuxhaven and Schwerin . Schlichting's work is characterized above all by its balanced composition and atmospheric sea and ship views.
 He painted regularly from 1925 to 1935 in the Nida artists' colony on the Curonian Spit . At times he also lived on Sylt .
